We are delighted to announce that Gurj Bains and Ana James have joined HMT as Manager in the Corporate Finance Technology team and as Team Secretary respectively to support our current deal activity.

COVID-19 has undoubtedly impacted the UK M&A market although several sectors have proved resilient and fundraising and development capital activity has been strong, particularly for B2B tech enabled businesses. There are also signs that a number of exits or partial exits will be coming to market with owner/managers looking to crystallise value in advance of potential capital gains tax increases driven by the governments funding of the pandemic crisis. We are also expecting to see a significant amount of consolidation in many sectors for both opportunistic and defensive reasons.

Gurj Bains qualified as ACA Chartered Accountant from KPMG in 2014 and subsequently worked in the M&A team at BDO where he advised on a number of transactions in the industrials, healthcare, education, and leisure sectors. More recently, Gurj was an Associate at Cavendish Corporate Finance where he worked on several technology transactions, including the sale of Altodigial Networks to Xerox Holdings Corporation.

Ana James joins HMT as a team secretary to support the Partners and team. Ana has a strong back office experience in the financial services sector, having worked as a PA at Quantuma for several years.

Andrew Thomson commented:

“Whilst there has clearly been a shift in the M&A market, we are delighted that investment appetite in the M&A and funding markets is resilient and are at a level to allow us to welcome Gurj and Ana to HMT. We look forward to working with them to maintain our strong market position in the Thames Valley and South on England.”
