HMT acted as lead advisors and reporting accountants for a joint venture owned by musician and technologist, Peter Gabriel, and broadcast industry entrepreneur, David Engleke, in the acquisition of Solid State Logic (“SSL”).
Based in Begbroke, Oxford, with subsidiaries in the USA and France, SSL designs and manufactures mixing consoles and related audio technology products for the global media markets including music, broadcast, film and post productions. According to Billboard magazine, 80% of US number one records are produced on SSL consoles.
HMT, which was led by partner Andrew Thomson, led detailed negotiations for the acquisition, secured funding and carried out financial due diligence.
Andrew Thomson commented:
“This is an exciting acquisition with all the necessary ingredients for success; the products are universally recognised as market leading, a highly experienced management team has been assembled including Managing Director, Antony David, who was SSL’s Sales Director in the 1980’s and early 1990’s and with David’s background in production and broadcasting and Peter’s as an artist and studio owner at Real World, the principals are senior figures in SSL’s two main markets.”
Peter Gabriel added:
“I have been a long time fan of SSL. We’re very excited about the opportunity of working with the company and to have a chance to participate in its future and its product development. Real World has enjoyed a close relationship with the company for years.”
