James is a Corporate Finance Partner at HMT who brings over 20 years advisory experience.
After graduating in Economics and Accounting from the University of Bristol in 1994, James started his career at Deloitte, first qualifying as a Chartered Accountant before then specialising in Corporate Finance. James left Deloitte to take up a role as a Senior Financial Analyst in the telecoms industry.
In 2000, James joined an advisory boutique specialising in the technology sector. During his time there, James completed more than 50 fundraisings and M&A transactions across the TMT space including software, SaaS, B2B & B2C, internet of things (IoT), telecoms, nanotech and new materials companies.
Before joining HMT, James was a Director in BDO’s National Renewables team, leading on transactions in the Energy and Cleantech sectors. At BDO, James led assignments for technology companies and project developers totalling in excess of £600 million.
James lives outside Bristol with his wife Catey, his two children Harry and Isabelle and an emotionally needy cat.
James enjoys mountain biking, cooking, rugby, skiing and reading autobiographies. Having slipped through the gaps at a strong rugby school that has produced numerous British Lions and Internationals, James is nonetheless a big rugby fan. Although no longer playing, he enjoys watching from the comfort of an armchair and living vicariously through the exploits of his son’s rugby team.
James is also keen on DIY and house renovations although more out of necessity than by choice as otherwise his two hundred year old house would fall down!
