HMT, led by partner Andrew Thomson, director Paul Read and associate director Holly Bedford, advised MenInvest SAS (“MenInvest”), a French menswear-focused media, e-commerce and publishing group, on the acquisition of Okini Limited (“Oki-Ni”), a UK online retailer of premium designer menswear.
Founded in 2010 by media entrepreneur Marc Ménasé, Paris-based MenInvest offers over 300 apparel and accessories brands and three private labels to a customer base spanning 80 countries. The business attracts more than 2 million unique monthly visitors to its editorial and e-commerce online destinations, which include menswear websites, Menlook, Timefy and Saint Sens. Additionally, the group publishes a quarterly magazine aimed at men, covering a range of topics including fashion, high-tech, culture, cars, travel and food.
London-based Okini, which was founded in 2001 as a premium menswear online retailer, works with established brands and progressive designers to offer innovative products to knowledgeable fashion consumers. Over 500,000 unique monthly visitors are attracted to the website, which ships to over 75 countries. The business has also collaborated on exclusive limited-edition pieces with notable brands including Paul Smith and Levi’s.
The acquisition is part of MenInvest’s growth strategy to reach €100 million in revenue by 2016, and will fill a geographic gap as well as complement their existing portfolio of sites.
Andrew Thomson commented:
“We are delighted to have advised MenInvest on this acquisition, which perfectly complements their portfolio and will enable the business to meet its ambitious growth targets.”
Marc Ménasé commented:
“HMT were excellent to work with. Their insight was detailed and most helpful.”
