LRG acquires Chancellors Group

HMT advised property services group Leaders Romans Group on their acquisition of Chancellors Estate Agency Group.
Backed by private equity firm Platinum Equity, LRG is one of the UK’s largest property services groups with a network of over 350 branches across the country and employ over 3,500 people. LRG provide their customers and clients, ranging from individuals wishing to sell or rent their property, through to corporate organisations and national house builders, with a comprehensive range of property related services.
Chancellors, a prominent name in the UK property market, was founded in 1807 by James Cain and now employs over 450 people in more than 50 branches. Chancellors offers a comprehensive suite of services, including residential sales, lettings, new homes, commercial, and land and development. With a strong presence across the Home Counties and beyond, Chancellors supports a wide range of clients, from first-time buyers and experienced investors to landlords and tenants. Renowned for its expert knowledge, attention to detail, and commitment to exceptional service, it has been a trusted name for generations.
Chancellors’ acquisition significantly expands LRG’s reach in existing and new markets, fuelling its ongoing growth strategy. The group will be retaining the Chancellors brand due to its local strength in the areas in which it operates. All acquired branches will retain their current branding. Notably, this acquisition establishes LRG’s presence in Mid Wales, Herefordshire, South Oxfordshire, and the Cotswolds, regions where it previously had no representation.
The HMT team provided financial due diligence on this transaction.

“The acquisition of Chancellors, with its 50+ branches, is our largest to date and a prime example of the type of business we are looking to acquire. As usual, the HMT team exceeded our expectations at every turn. Their thorough analysis, clear communication, and strategic insights gave us the confidence to move forward with the complex transaction.”
Matthew Light, Group M&A Director
Paul Read commented:
“We are extremely pleased to have advised LRG on their largest acquisition to date. Chancellors is a perfect match for LRG and the acquisition of Chancellors will enable the group to expand their reach and provide their services to a broader client base. We look forward to working with them again in the future.”
